Latest food news from Norwegian Cruise Line
MAY 2026
Menus refreshed across the 2025–26 seasons: Raw Bar (May 2026), Le Bistro and both Indulge Food Hall menus (April 2026), La Cucina (March 2026), Food Republic and Nama Sushi (September 2025), and Cagney’s Steakhouse, Los Lobos, Moderno Churrascaria, Ocean Blue and Onda by Scarpetta (May 2025).
DECEMBER 2025
NCL re-introduced Free at Sea Plus at $49.99 per person per day. It adds 50% off additional specialty dining cover charges, top-shelf spirits and premium wines, unlimited streaming Wi-Fi in place of the 150-minute credit, and Starbucks.
AUGUST 2025
Norwegian Aqua debuted with Sukhothai, NCL’s first-ever Thai specialty restaurant — cashew chicken, salt and pepper prawns, Thai grilled steak salad and a full curry menu. Now also sailing on Norwegian Luna.
Free at Sea specialty dining
The number of specialty dining meals included with Free at Sea depends on the length of your cruise:
2–4 nights
1
meal per person
5–6 nights
2
meals per person
7–8 nights
3
meals per person
9+ nights
4
meals per person
Each specialty dining meal includes up to three appetizers, one main course, and up to three desserts per person.
At six restaurants — Sushi/Wasabi, Nama, Food Republic, Pincho Tapas Bar, Raw Bar, and Ocean Blue — you instead choose any four menu items per person.
⚓ Cruise Corps Pro Tip: When you sit down at any specialty restaurant, you’ll be asked if you want to use one of your included Free at Sea meals. Use your credits at the $60 cover charge restaurants — Cagney’s, Le Bistro, Ocean Blue, Teppanyaki — and pay out of pocket at the $40 venues where it costs less than a credit. You don’t have to use your credits in any particular order.
Free at Sea Plus Re-introduced December 2025
NCL’s premium tier. Same number of included specialty dining meals as standard Free at Sea, plus:
- 50% off additional specialty dining cover charges beyond your included meals
- Top-shelf spirits and premium wines (upgrade from standard open bar)
- Unlimited Wi-Fi (standard Free at Sea includes a minutes-based credit only)
- Starbucks included
If you plan to dine at specialty restaurants beyond your included meals, the 50% discount can pay for the upgrade quickly — especially on 7-night or longer sailings.
Norwegian Cruise Line restaurant cover charges 2026
Since 1 January 2025 NCL charges a flat per-person cover at its specialty restaurants rather than pricing each dish. The cover applies when you dine without an included Free at Sea meal, or beyond the meals your package includes.

Cagney’s Steakhouse $60
American Steakhouse
NCL’s flagship specialty restaurant and the gold standard for steaks at sea. Prime-cut dry-aged beef, the beloved Parmesan Truffle Fries, and a curated wine list. If you only have one Free at Sea credit, this is the place to use it.

Hasuki $60
Japanese Dining
Japanese-inspired dining in an intimate, sit-down setting. Wagyu beef, shareable small plates, and a sake and whisky list worth exploring. Different from Teppanyaki — Hasuki is quieter and menu-focused, without the tableside performance cooking.

Le Bistro $60
French Fine Dining
NCL’s classic French restaurant, available on nearly every ship in the fleet. Escargot, duck confit, crêpes Suzette, and a wine list to match. One of the most consistently excellent specialty restaurants at sea — menu freshly updated for 2026.

Ocean Blue $60
Coastal Seafood
Chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s ocean-to-table seafood restaurant. Fresh catch, sustainable shellfish, and an elevated raw bar. One of six NCL restaurants that use the 4-item format — great value at the $60 cover charge.

Palomar $60
Mediterranean Seafood
Mediterranean-inspired seafood on NCL’s newer Prima-class ships. Expect Tuna Crudo, Grilled Octopus, and fresh Branzino with bright, clean flavours. Relaxed but upscale — a great choice if you want something lighter than a steakhouse.

Teppanyaki $60
Japanese Hibachi
The most theatrical dining experience on any NCL ship. A skilled chef grills your entire meal tableside on a flat-iron grill — fire, sizzle, and knife tricks included. Book as early as possible; this fills up faster than any other specialty restaurant on board.

Food Republic $50
Asian Fusion Small Plates
Asian-fusion small plates spanning Southeast Asia — dim sum, Korean BBQ bites, baos, and sushi rolls. The 4-item format means you can sample widely across the menu in a single sitting. One of the most flexible specialty experiences on board.

Moderno Churrascaria $50
Brazilian Steakhouse
All-you-can-eat Brazilian rodízio service. Servers circulate continuously with a parade of seasoned meats carved tableside, complemented by an extensive salad and hot-side bar. Easily the most food for your cover charge of any restaurant on the ship.

Nama Sushi $50
Sushi & Sashimi
Fresh sushi, sashimi, and specialty rolls crafted to order. Available on select Prima-class ships. The 4-item format gives you full flexibility to build your own tasting menu from the raw selections, specialty rolls, and cooked Japanese dishes.

Raw Bar $50
Seafood Bar
NCL’s casual raw bar serving oysters, cold seafood towers, shrimp cocktail, and sashimi. The 4-item format makes it a lighter, more flexible alternative to a full specialty dinner — and one of the best-value $50 options on the ship. Freshly updated menu for 2026.

Sukhothai $50
✦ Norwegian Aqua & Luna only
Thai Cuisine
NCL’s first-ever Thai specialty restaurant, debuting on Norwegian Aqua in August 2025 and now also sailing on Norwegian Luna. Authentic Thai flavours — cashew chicken, salt and pepper prawns, Thai grilled steak salad, and a full curry menu. The newest addition to NCL’s specialty lineup.

Sushi Bar $50
Sushi & Yakitori
NCL’s original sushi counter, found on the fleet’s older ships and branded Wasabi on Norwegian Breakaway, Epic and Getaway — same concept, same menu. Nigiri, sashimi and specialty rolls made to order, with sake and Japanese beer alongside. Uses the 4-item format, so you pick any four plates rather than three courses. Prima-class ships have Nama instead.

La Cucina $40
Italian Trattoria
Rustic Italian trattoria with handmade pastas, wood-fired dishes, and classic Italian comfort food. The most affordable specialty dining on the ship with a freshly updated 2026 menu — and the $40 cover charge is one of the best-value meals at sea.

Los Lobos $40
Upscale Mexican
Upscale Mexican with tableside guacamole, house-made sauces, and a serious tequila and mezcal list. Lively atmosphere with bold flavours — great for groups. At $40, this is one of the easiest specialty meals to justify paying out of pocket.

Onda by Scarpetta $40
Modern Italian
Modern Italian from acclaimed chef Scott Conant, best known for his legendary spaghetti with tomato and basil. Elevated pasta dishes, fresh Italian flavours, and a stylish setting. A step up from La Cucina in sophistication — for the same $40 cover charge.

Pincho Tapas Bar $40
✦ Norwegian Escape only
Spanish Tapas
Spain’s small-plate tradition at sea, and only on Norwegian Escape. Manchego cheese, Iberico ham, cod croquettes and garlic shrimp, with sangria to match. One of six NCL restaurants using the 4-item format, so you choose any four plates rather than a fixed three courses — which makes it the easiest specialty meal to share.

Q Texas Smokehouse $40
Texas BBQ
Low-and-slow Texas BBQ with smoked brisket, pulled pork, house-made sauces, and classic sides. Casual atmosphere, generous portions, and some of the most satisfying comfort food at sea. An easy choice if you’re looking for something unfussy and filling.
Complimentary Restaurants
No cover charge, and no need to use a Free at Sea credit — these are included with every fare.

American Diner No charge
American Comfort Food
Classic American diner food available around the clock — burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes, loaded fries, and breakfast classics all day. One of the best late-night options on any NCL ship, and always complimentary.

Indulge Food Hall — Dinner No charge
International Food Hall
NCL’s globally inspired food-hall concept, available on Norwegian Prima, Viva, Aqua, and Luna. A dozen international food stations under one roof — Mediterranean bowls, Latin street food, Asian noodles, and more. Freshly updated dinner menu for 2026. No reservation needed.

Indulge Food Hall — Lunch No charge
International Food Hall
The same globally inspired food-hall format as dinner, with a lunch-focused selection. Lighter fare, quick bites, and international flavours — a great option on sea days when you want something more interesting than the buffet.

The Local Bar & Grill No charge
Gastropub
NCL’s neighbourhood gastropub concept on newer ships, replacing O’Sheehan’s. Elevated pub classics — burgers, sliders, chicken sandwiches, and shareable snacks — available around the clock. Casual, no-fuss, always complimentary.

O’Sheehan’s No charge
Irish Pub
NCL’s 24-hour Irish pub, available on most ships built before the Prima class. Pub staples — fish and chips, wings, loaded nachos, and shepherd’s pie — served all day and late into the night. Great for watching sports and casual late-night snacking.
Which of these are on your ship?
Not every restaurant sails on every ship. See our NCL restaurants by ship guide for the full lineup on each Norwegian ship, so you know what you can book before you sail.

Frequently asked questions
How many specialty dining meals are included with Free at Sea?
It depends on your cruise length: 1 meal on 2–4 night sailings, 2 meals on 5–6 nights, 3 meals on 7–8 nights, and 4 meals on 9+ night sailings. These are per person — so a couple on a 7-night cruise gets 6 specialty meals total to use however they like across any combination of restaurants.
Can I use my Free at Sea meals at any specialty restaurant?
Yes — any restaurant with a cover charge is eligible. There’s no restriction on which restaurants you use your credits at, and you don’t have to use them in any order. The smartest strategy is to save your credits for the $60 restaurants and pay the cover charge out of pocket at the $40 venues, where it costs less than burning a credit.
What is the cover charge at Cagney’s Steakhouse on Norwegian Cruise Line?
$60 per person, as of January 1, 2025, when NCL moved from à la carte pricing to flat per-person cover charges across all specialty restaurants. A 20% gratuity and service charge is added at time of payment. The cover charge is waived when using an included Free at Sea specialty dining credit.
Is Indulge Food Hall free on Norwegian Cruise Line?
Yes — Indulge Food Hall is completely complimentary with no cover charge. It’s available on NCL’s newer Prima-class ships: Norwegian Prima, Viva, Aqua, and Luna. It features a rotating selection of international cuisine across multiple food stations and doesn’t require a reservation.
What is the difference between Free at Sea and Free at Sea Plus?
Both tiers include the same number of specialty dining meals based on cruise length. Free at Sea Plus, re-introduced in December 2025, upgrades the experience with 50% off additional specialty dining cover charges beyond your included meals, top-shelf spirits and premium wines (upgrade from the standard open bar), unlimited Wi-Fi instead of a minutes-based credit, and Starbucks included.
Which NCL restaurants use a 4-item format instead of the standard 3-course meal?
Six restaurants use the 4-item format: Sushi/Wasabi, Nama, Food Republic, Pincho Tapas Bar, Raw Bar, and Ocean Blue. Instead of the standard format (up to 3 appetizers + 1 main + up to 3 desserts), you simply choose any 4 items from the menu. This makes them especially flexible for sharing and sampling.
Which NCL ships have Sukhothai?
Sukhothai is currently available only on Norwegian Aqua (debuted August 2025) and Norwegian Luna (launched March 2026). It is not available on other ships in the fleet. If you’re sailing on an older ship, Hasuki and Nama Sushi offer the closest alternatives for Asian-cuisine specialty dining.
Do NCL specialty restaurant cover charges include gratuity?
No — the cover charges listed are before gratuity. NCL adds a 20% gratuity and service charge at the time of payment. So a $60 cover charge at Cagney’s effectively costs $72 per person before any drinks. If you’re using a Free at Sea credit, no cover charge is applied, but you may still be charged gratuity on any additional items ordered beyond what’s included.
Cover charges and menu contents are subject to change. Always confirm current pricing on the NCL dining page or with your travel advisor before sailing.
